export as PDF with notes garbles slide

I created a slideset with OpenOffice Impress 3.0 on Kubuntu 8.04. I've attached one slide from that presentation. I recently upgraded to OpenOffice 3.1 on the same OS. When I exported to PDF with notes, the slide portion of the notes got garbled. This did not happen with 3.0. I've attached the PDF that results. The first page of the PDF is the slide by itself -- no garbling. The second is the slide+notes. Notice that the slide is no longer correct. This is reproducible. Printing into PDF with notes works fine. Only export as PDF with notes garbles slides. I have other slides that are garbled if you need additional examples.

It same with Sun version on winXP OOo 3.1.
