Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18370
SpellChecker Stops Working When Default Language Changes
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
When one changes the default language in Options/Language Settings/Languages; in my case : Language of : Locale Setting = English (Australia), Default Currency = AUD, Default Languages for Documents : Western = English (Australia), Spellcheck features stop working. Neither Check nor AutoSpellCheck work. Check will start at the top of the document and go to the end and not find any errors. AutoSpellCheck will not underline any possible spelling errors in red. I was using 1.0.3 and upgraded, but both versions (1.1 r3) have the same problem.
Hi, Every piece of text has a locale/language attribute attached to it. So what language/locale setting does the text have? If you highlight a word on the document and go to Format->Character->Font and look at the language pulldown what does it say? Do you have the proper dictionary for that language installed? If not, it will do exactly what you report correctly (not a bug). Kevin
> If you highlight a word on the document and go to > Format->Character->Font > and look at the language pulldown what does it say? It says English (Australia) > Do you have the proper dictionary for that language installed? \share\wordbook\English has soffice.dic sun.dic \share\wordbook is empty \share\dict\ooo has en_US and en_BR \share\dict\ is empty > If not, it will do exactly what you report correctly (not a bug). In this case I would suggest there is a UAT failure, as it does not tell you your choice of dictionary is not installed. There is no UI message to inform you otherwise, yet if go back to these other dictionaries these features activate. This leaves the average user in limbo. I also feel it would be advantageous for the installer to check the settings on the operating systems environment to get the default language of choice and currency.
Please see duplicate Issue 16940 Actually, there is an error message when spellcheck is initiated that the language is not supported and the proper dictionary is not installed. (Just confirmed this w/1.1rc3.) *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 16940 ***
