Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 3349
Auto Corrector gets confused about case
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:41:49 UTC
After a while of typing the Auto Corrector insisted that if I types "subscription" what I had meant to type was "SUBSCRIPTION" !! I could not make it stop always changing the text to "SUBSCRIPTION" !! I cannot attach a document because this is a session issue. Simply shutting down OO, restarting OO and reloading the document cures the problem. All I can say is that there are both upper and lower case instances of "subscription" and "subscribe" in the document. Furthermore while typing I am offered "subscriptION" as an auto completion option (with "ION" being the blue extension text offered).
Please don't submit issues whwn one issue still happens 10 mn after you have submitted the first one... *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3347 ***

Please read the OR's ! 3347 relates to entering text such as "PLEASE read all of THIs" into a field that has a style attribute of "Capitalise". In that case the word "THIs" gets a red wavy line as a spelling mistake. To the reader this make no sense as what is displayed is "THIS", which appears completely correct. What was fooling me was the fact that it was the auto corrector that was providing the word "THIs". This O.R. was to inform you that the auto corrector does not follow the current case schema for the paragraph being typed. Sometimes to the extent where it knows what word you want but insists on producing it as all capitals, or even worse part capitals and part lower case. I am re-opening this since it is NOT a duplicate.
The word completion collects all words that match the choosen length unless the automatic spellcheck runs. Only in that case, only the "good" words are collected. Therefore suggestions like "SUBScription" (that the spellcheck later will complain about) are normal. I see it as an enhancment to have one (or more) capitalisation options for the word completion. At times, SUGGESTION and suggestion are not treated differently. -> Owen: If you like the case of capitalized-formatted words (shown "THIS" but written "tHis" therefore spellcheck complaint surprises the user) being cared about, write a new task. We can not handle collective tasks. Thx. Reassigned to CJ.
Reassigned to Bettina.
