Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 35061
HTML export: should use slide names for HTML file names (instead of page number)
Last modified: 2014-04-25 12:25:23 UTC
Hello, I'm using OOo Impress HTML export to publish my presentations on my website. This is a nice way to get an index too. There is a pretty ugly issue though when I remove or add a page, which changes page numbers. This can change the URL of a given slide, because the HTML file name is associated to its page number. This is an issue for people who refer to a particular presentation page from their websites. When Impress exports to HTML, could it use the slide name instead of the page number as a basis for the page and image file names? The slide name is unique too (enforced by Impress). As this should be easy to implement and as it really impacts the usefulness of HTML export, I'd really appreciate if this issue could be fixed in the next major release of OOo. Let me know if I can help! Thank you for everything! Cheers, Michael.
This is no defect but an enhancement. Reassigned to Bettina.
Hello, I'm surprised nobody else supported this. Because of this, the links to my HTML exported pages are no longer correct when I insert or remove a page. I checked that this issue it still there in the latest OOo 2.0 beta version. That would be great if the suggested improvement could be implemented! Cheers, Michael.

Problems may arise with I18N support: how to export slide names with characters outside the ASCII codetable? I think slide numbers are also important. So file names could contain both slide numbers AND slide names.
The decision could perhaps be up to the user. If non ASCII characters are used in slide titles, users will see problems with generate file names, and may decide to switch back to the page numbers. I don't see the added value of using both the slide number and slide title. You loose the benefit of having a page URL that doesn't change when you insert or remove pages before the current page.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
