Description haui 2005-05-29 19:57:09 UTC
OOimpress allows to select multiple slides within the slides sidebar. It would
be great, if the selected page numbers could be prefilled into the box named
"pages" in the (PDF) export dialogue. This also prevents misunderstandings of
the radio button "selection", which stays gray, even if pages are "selected" in
the slides sidebar.

This issue also applies to the Draw application.

The selection button is only for selected objects.
Reassigned.

Replication:
=============

Configuration: OS- windows XP SP3
System: Lenovo ThinkPad Model T61
OOo version: OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m78 (Build: 9501)
Microsoft Office 2007 Standard Edition.

Test was done to check the current functionality.

1. Functionality in MS Office PowerPoint: MS PowerPoint is chosen as the oracle
of comparable product. In PowerPoint it is tested that we can export selected
slides to PDF. However, PowerPoint also does not show the selected slides
in a text box which was the request of the bug filer.

This is a feature that is nice to have but not a high priority in my view.

Follow-Up Tests
================
Following follow-up test were done to check the grayed out 'selection' button

2. The grayed out "Selection" radio button issue was also looked in to apart
from the original request for making the page nos be made visible through a
text box. It is not possible to export selected slides as PDF as he 'Selection'
button is grayed out. This issue has to be looked in to as this makes a
feature unavailable to users.

3. Functionality in OOo writer: We can select slides and export to
PDF. 'Selection' radio button is enabled.

Conclusions
===========

1. In MS PowerPoint selected pages can be exported as PDF. PowerPoint also does
not show the selected pages in text
box.

2. This enhancement request was tested to make the case for it. It is a nice to
have feature to have the selected pages displayed in a text box. However, Pages
radio button in PDF Options dialog achieves comparable function.

3. This feature is not in any of the OOo products where selected pages are
displayed.

4. This request might not add any additional value as 'Pages' radio button can
be used to select a range of pages.

5. User complained that a radio button 'Selection' is not working but did
mention she/he could export selected slides as pdf pages. This is a bug and
may need to be tested on another system before confirming it. This is a minor
irritancy as same functionality is achieved by another option of selecting
required pages. However, non working of a 'given' option will reflect poorly on
OOo Impress’. My tests to export 'selected pages' as PDF does not work.
