Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 93037
Bullets missing in master outline when saved as PowerPoint PPT
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:21:02 UTC
Presentations saved as PPT files lose outline bullets on master slides. Content slides maintain their bullets correctly, but any new slides based on the master will not have outline bullets. Outline bullets on master slides are correctly retained in PPT files saved by Impress 2.4.1. To reproduce: 1. Create empty presentation in Impress. 2. Save file as Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (.ppt). 3. Close file. 4. Open resulting PPT file in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003. (I have not tested other versions of PowerPoint.) 5. Select View > Master > Slide Master. The master outline will have no bullets. If the PPT file is reopened in Impress, the bullets are shown. So the bullet information seems to be stored in the file but not available to PowerPoint.

Reproducible. Reassigned.
I would like to add that opening resulting file in Openoffice has the same effect. The master outline will have no bullets but the slides already done will keep the correct format. I devoted some time, after the bullets where lost, to configure them more or less as they looked previously by hand. I thought specifying the format from within ooo could work. But the result is the same, after reopening the file, bullet format is lost. I do not know how many people are affected by this bug, but it makes it impossible for me to use Openoffice.org since I am forced to use a specific template. Not to talk about the time lost until I realized this was a bug. I am using ooo on Ubuntu Karmic, by the way.
I have observed this same problem using Impress OpenOffice 3.2, OOO320m12 (Build:9483) running on Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, kernel 2.6.32-24-generic-pae #39-Ubuntu SMP i686 GNU/Linux. I started seeing this problem soon after I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.x to Ubuntu 10.04, though I do not know if it is related to the upgrade It is a *major* problem. A (poor) workaround is described here: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=32578&start=0
Using the same build as dbooth, with the same problem, on the 2.6.32-24-generic kernel with Kubuntu Lucid. I find that I cannot even manually set a bullet for the second level of outline in the Master page view. Agonisingly frustrating, because I'm forced to use Powerpoint at work and this tiny thing effectively cripples Impress for me!
